Dedicated and fully committed, the SUNation Solar Systems team consists of a talented and resourceful group of professionals. Most of the staff have been involved in the solar industry for 10, 15, or 20 years or more, and we pride ourselves in furthering our education in solar technology and being knowledgeable about the latest techniques, products and installation.

Our staff is supported by a strong leadership team and we're advocates of ongoing training in solar energy and extensive quality control. What's more, SUNation Solar System employees actively participate in community events and we volunteer our time and efforts towards many different causes in the Long Island area.

Scott Maskin

Scott Maskin

Co-Founder/CEO

Scott Maskin co-founded SUNation Solar Systems in 2003 and currently serves as President and CEO. As the company operations leader, his hands-on approach has driven SUNation’s growth and branding. Scott has a PhD from the School of Hard knocks. From 1980-1987 Scott traveled as an electrician and pyrotechnician for large touring musical, theatrical and industrial tours. The climate of conquering insurmountable tasks on a daily basis honed Scott’s organizational and communication skills and laid the foundation for everything that was to follow. Post 1987, Scott worked as a traditional electrician and obtained his Master Electrician’s license in 1994 and went out on his own. The next 18 years were filled with countless electrical and general contracting projects including hotels, large retail box stores, restaurants and thousands of residential installations. Just completing projects was never enough for Scott. Being a complete solution provider and never forgetting the importance of total customer satisfaction, will always be paramount to Scott. Solar became a passion and a direction in 2001. The mission of making the world a better place for his family, friends and fellow Long Islanders gave birth to what SUNation is, a collaborative of like-minded people who enjoy similar passions for family, the workplace and the environment. When not acting as Captain on the SUNation ship, Scott is an avid family man spending time boating, beaching and skiing and just enjoying what experiences come his way.

Mike Bailis

Mike Bailis

Co-Founder/Chief of Sales

As Co-Founder and Chief Sales Officer at SUNation Solar Systems, Mike Bailis oversees all revenue-generating business, including sales and marketing in both the residential and commercial markets.  With nearly 40 years of experience in energy sales, Bailis has worked in the HVAC business since 1982 and is a recognized expert in the solar industry.  Early in his career, Bailis noticed the problems the U.S. faced with its first major energy crisis, specifically with the importing and use of fossil fuels.  He recognized that we cannot depend on these limited resources we have that we have no control over and saw solar as a viable solution as the sun is free, readily available, and under-utilized.

It is Bailis’ goal at SUNation to assist homeowners and businesses in our region to see the benefits of solar and to help our community transition from a carbon-based economy to a renewable energy economy.

Bailis is the former vice chairman of the Long Island Solar Energy Industry Association (LISEIA) as well as a board member of NYSEIA.  He is a graduate of SUNY Cortland with a BS in Economics.  When not totally consumed with running his solar business, he tries to find some down time playing tennis, golf, fishing and playing poker.

Jim is a military veteran, experienced entrepreneur and investment banker with a strong record of results-driven business execution and deal making, which includes twenty-five years of experience in strategy, corporate / business development, sales and marketing management and international business. Jim has successfully led three turn-around projects; founded several companies; led the acquisition or sale of numerous companies; managed a team at a Fortune 500 company that successfully delivered hundreds of technology projects and launched several mobile computing products. To date, Jim has negotiated over 200-technology license and acquisition deals domestically and has worked on projects internationally. He earned a MBA (Finance) degree from New York University, a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, an Associate degree in Engineering Science from Farmingdale University, is a Founding member of multiple non-profit organizations.

Scott Sousa has been a Licensed Master electrician for over 30 years. He also has 10+ years of solar design and installation experience with over 1800 projects completed. Scott is a NABCEP PV Installation Professional and certified as an IREC PV training instructor for Bronx Community College, NY Sun Trainers Network and the Electrical Training center.

Quentin Franco

Vice President, Residential Project Acquisition

Quentin has been designing and selling solar systems for over 7 years. He currently has over 200 systems designed and installed on Long Island. Quentin attended the University of Baltimore where he earned a B.S. in business, specializing in entrepreneurship and marketing. He is currently completing his M.B.A. at Stony Brook University. When not designing solar systems, Quentin is an avid mountain biker & enjoys playing hockey.

Nicole Sousa

Vice President of Finance

After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting at St. Joseph’s College, Nicole began her career in public accounting learning the ins and outs of accounting and specializing in Auditing and Taxation. She moved on to the private sector working at a Private Equity Firm serving as an Analyst/Senior Accountant. As our VP of Finance, she provides leadership and strategic direction for all financial and operational functions, and directly oversees finance and accounting.

Brian Karp is Director of Operations and runs all aspects of our installation, service and warehouse teams. Brian has been with SUNation for ten years and was employee number 5! He has been involved in over 1,800 of our Residential, Municipal and Commercial installations.

After graduating from the University of Kentucky, with a degree in Retail and Fashion Merchandising, Gina worked in New York City as a Buyer for a group of department stores for 15 years. Taking a few years off to raise a family, she re-entered the work force by taking her customer service skills to the solar industry working for SUNation for the past 6 1/2 years and currently serving as the Director of Customer Experience overseeing the Client Process.

After earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, Tara joined the SUNation team in 2011. She has since then held several positions in the company as Accounts Payable/Receivable Manager, Payroll Manager and Service Coordinator. Her experience in several facets of the Company have helped to make her transition into Human Resources and Training a natural progression.

Prior to joining the SUNation team in 2011, Hollie earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Oneonta. She has since earned her 2nd bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and become Director of Information Systems running the Network Operations Center (NOC) for SUNation. When she isn’t helping to keep SUNation’s tech running, she enjoys the outdoors – anything from fishing, boating, and beaching to skydiving!

Jessica Bailis

Director of Marketing

Jessica has worked in the digital/social marketing industry for 11 years and is currently the Director of Marketing at SUNation Solar Systems.  Since 2005, she’s had experience across all marketing fronts including digital marketing/publicity, social media marketing, grassroots/indie marketing, project management, e-commerce, email marketing, brand strategy, media relations, client/manager relations, and held multiple leadership roles.  She’s worked at a major record label, an indie record label, a marketing/publicity company, and in 2014, launched her own independent social marketing consulting business; overall creating and implementing over 100 digital campaigns.  Jessica is always aiming to be an early adopter and trendsetter in the digital marketing world.
